Women spend 30% more time on social networking sites than men

According to a new comScore report, women are spending almost 30% more time on social networking sites than men.

Although women account for 47.9% of total unique visitors, they consume 57% of pages, and account for nearly 57% of total time spent on these sites.

Globally, women are spending significantly more time on these social networking sites per month than men are. Women average 5.5 hours per month, compared to men's 4 hours.

In May 2010, 75.8% of all female internet users visited a social networking site, compared to 69.7% of men.

Additional findings from the report include:

  • Although men make up the majority across the internet, women spend about 8% more time online, averaging 25 hours per month.
  • Globally, women spend 20% more time on retail sites overall than men.
  • In the U.S., women purchase more items online than men. In February 2010, 12.5% of female internet users made an online purchase, compared to 9.3% of men.
